Absolutely, fascism is growing. Climate change is getting worse. Anti-trans rhetoric is growing.

But also, anti-fascism was something that pretty much only existed in the punk scene in the 90s and 00s.
There was very little leftism.
There were far fewer ways for private individuals to meet up with strangers over common interests and organize resistance.
We still had CFCs destroying the ozone.
Lead pipes were way more common.
There was only very limited international collaboration and treaties on ecological matters.
It was still considered normal for sexual harassment to happen in schools and workplaces, and the widespread opinion was that it was the woman's fault when it happened.
There was no gay marriages anywhere. In fact, being called gay was one of the worst pejoratives one could be called in much of the world.
Trans people were either invisible or a joke. It was commonly accepted that the only "right way" to transition was to be an adult, extremely stereotypically binary and gender conforming, and after transition, move to a new city, cut all ties, and try to hide that you were ever trans. I couldn't even imagine that 13 states would have explicit laws protecting trans people even 8 years ago.
The internet itself was some that was really only accessible to middle class and wealthy people in rich nations outside of libraries and internet cafes.

I could go on and on and on with all the problems the world had in "the good old days". Sure, today's world has problems. They're super scary and bad. But there were also lots and lots of scary and bad problems "back in the day". Many many more minorities had no voice or visibility at all. We just didn't have to know about it or worry about it as much because we were kids, and our only source of news was whatever we happened to overhear on the mainstream nightly news or from adults complaining.

So stop glorifying the past. Accept that the past kinda sucked, just in different ways to the present. We can only fight the battles in front of us today, and accept that even if we "win", tomorrow will have other and different problems. That's just life.
