"The Journal of the American Medical Association: patients admitted to teaching hospitals with high-risk cardiac conditions were less likely to die if they were admitted to hospital when many of the cardiologists were out of town at the annual national cardiology conference. Why? One possible explanation is because when the doctors were away, the patients were less likely to be subjected to high-risk interventions."
