I don't think a therapist is the "solution" but the value I see is a as an emotional trashcan. I've had the problem before of emotional dumping on girlfriends and honestly, that isn't their job. So I keep one around so when I'm feeling overwhelmed I can rant at him for an hour instead about my insecurities or whatever instead of mess up my other relationships.

But again, it's a tool and not a solution.
