8/10.
This is a film me and most of my family would watch and get many laughs out of while rewinding to replay some of the scenes because they were just that funny and even if the animation didn’t age perfectly it still gave me and family a good amount of laughs this time around as well. Sid is how you are SUPPOSED to do a comedy relief character not some stupid shit like olaf which people were happy when he “died” in the sequel only for him to come back. I’d say on this rewatch something that seems pretty weak was how diego grew to be attached to the group, I get the saving his life bit but the realization of mannys circumstances was kinda basic considering how diegos pack was killed by humans I would assume it could be interrupted as a circle of life thing however I think from a younger perspective it makes sense enough.
Even if the way the humans looked wasn’t the best I think it worked for the time along with it not honestly looking as bad as I was expecting it to look. Some people have way to stingy expectations these days and think stuff like ANY 3d used is bad even when it does look decent or wanting some shit like people spending practically 10+ years to make a frame by frame hand drawn experience like Pinocchio or older anime series but even if I don’t have a problem with that kind of thing in terms of visuals I know shit like that is like telling an artist to spend his entire life painting one piece of art for the CHANCE of it doing well for cheap or some jackass on twitter taking an old felix the cat style cartoon clip to say “why can’t we have animation like this anymore”.
The line delivery should also be complimented sense it works so well with the comedy for me at least and most characters sounded like they gave a shit when voicing their lines and send me on my way was a good song.
Best Quality: The Comedy.
Worst Quality: 2 fake out deaths that were pretty weak, 8 Below did a better fake out.
Awards-
Good Old Days: I’d say in many aspects it still holds up well even the animation for me at least, it was a treat to return too.
Shining Example: Sid helps make the film in so many ways which is not usual for his character type but it’s because it’s done so well here with the writing that he stands out as a shining example of comedy relief.
Overall yes, please watch it if you haven’t, I enjoyed it quite a bit and no I don’t care if some of the joke if not many of them are juvenile, they can work when done right, 8/10.
