Remembered as "Old Reliable" this ship was dazzle-painted in 1917 for camouflage, or rather optical distortion, so specific parts and orientation in the water were harder to make out by sight. But because photos at the time were black and white, we tend to think all the dazzle ships were in grayscale. Clearly not, as many paintings attest (and a few photos too). The dazzle style was heavily influenced by vorticism in #painting
