I have some thoughts which I want to share, related to the recent steps US government made in relation to cryptocurrencies - the reserve, memecoins etc.
They look like anything but a systematic, well-thought policy from government financial perspective, but massive financial balances were changed on this market. Trump doesn’t seem like he has any clue what he’s doing here, so I assume the ‘angry young men’ from his entourage are taking the lead.
And it looks kind of surreal, like the 4chan puppies grew up and started running the whole country. While most people think of cryptocurrencies like some kind of harmless toy or speculative commodity, it’s much more than that. It now accumulated majority of the actual organised crime. The problem here is that the Russian FSB has been controlling practically all mining in Russia and in ‘black holes’ like Abkhazia for years. FSB is organised crime that has resources of a whole state at hand.
These are very dirty and violent people, for whom human or drug trafficking is like going to the office on a Monday. Few people heard of a secret private (!) bunker found in Leningrad oblast’ in 2021 with its own torture chamber and crematorium, where cryptocurrency owners were likely extorted. Or dozens of massive cryptocorruency and cybercrime scams that blew up in Russia, such as collapse of Cryptex trading exchange, which was one of many. But this is also huge money that has largely disappeared… in someone’s hands.
American tech bros and some US libertarians may find it impressive - for now, until they understand what anarcho-syndicalism means in practice, and even more so in Russia…
