TIL the StarTropics series on the NES - despite being developed in-house by Nintendo - was created specifically for the US market, and has never been released in Japan. It wasn't even available in Europe until the Wii Virtual Console release.
Also, StarTropics 2 was apparently the second-to-last first-party Nintendo game released for the NES, with Wario's Woods being the final one.
