November 15th and 16th in Long Island City, Queens, John Tournas have put together a performance as a part of the Green Space Take Root series. You can get tix here -
https://www.greenspacestudio.org/november-2024 ! Our piece is a personal and vulnerable one made with the intention of restoration. It would be so special to see you there if you’re in the z’ne.
In the aftermath of sexual violence, former co-op roommates come together to share what they haven't before. They carry us through several acts of memory, grief, and celebration. With this, we offer a reminder that abuse impacts whole communities and not just the survivor and perpetrator. DUPLEX includes live music and improvisation as we continue to explore what's unsaid.
There is an additional piece that night from Pele Bauch -
Where does everything come from? Are we all stardust? Ho'o Infinity explores these questions taking inspiration from the Kumulipo, a historical chant that charts the final Hawaiian monarchy's genealogical path from the beginning of time. Layering poetics and science with dance and theater, this new work begins with the lipo darkness and emptiness and evolves to generous abundance. The creative team includes choreographer, co-creator, performer Pele Bauch; co-creator, director Eva Burgess; performer collaborators Erika Comrie-Krupa and Jessie Winograd; dramaturg and performer, Kahu Oli Lae O'o Kris Kato.
