I think the only viable option is something voluntarily funded. But a voluntarily funded army or natural law enforcement group could never beat the likes of the USA or the CCP or the like. So realistically they’d get crushed and destroyed at some point.

The only hope I see for self-sovereign humans is if defense tech has a remarkable breakthrough where a small group or even an individual can adequately defend against a much larger force. Drones, compute, AI going exponential might see this happen in some unexpected way. But right now there isn’t an actionable solution to the nation state problem.
