Just checked smart of my HDDs in the server. After running a short smart Test the big array of 4 x 4TB seems fine other than being about for 4 years old (other than one drive which only has about 8.000 hours on it instead of 36.000 :blobfoxgoogly: )
Is this something to be concerned about? They NAS-Drives so they should be fine normally and none of them dropped out of the array just yet.
Maybe I should start thinking about running regular backups though... a lot of the smart values show "old_age", which seems not to be concerning by themselves. The drives are quite old by now. Some (being Raw_Read_Error_Rate, Spin_Up_Time, Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Spin_Retry_Count) show "Pre-Fail". Which seems to be a sign that they might fail in the future but have not yet.
Guess gonna buy a Backup-Harddrive and make some precautions.
Is there some procedure that can guide me through making automatic backups from time to time?
#serveradmin reboosts welcome
