My friend group is especially annoyed by politicians who tell them that things are going well, actually, and they do not appreciate how well they are doing.

I think that's a line that only works on the homeowner class. Seeing it trotted out against a legion of people who cannot afford their groceries and their rent, and can't find anywhere else to live? That's not a great strategy.
