This is one of the most annoying things about #Mastodon web's UI.
When you sign up for a new account, which needs manual approval, you get two completely contradictory messages:

1) Your application is pending review by our staff. This may take some time. You will receive an email if your application is approved.
2) Your account is fully operational.

I would report this as an issue, but, surely someone has reported it already? Is it on the "won't fix" list?
I reported something similarly bad [notifications aren't dated] and apparently it's "won't fix" so I don't know if there's any point.
