What still has me going about this ant are the rather short antennae, but also big eyes.
Gigantiops destructor has big eyes, but long antennae, which makes sense as these ants jump between twigs and leafs in the understory of dense tropical forests chasing their fast prey.
So, how does Santschiella kohli hunt? The short antennae suggest confined spaces. Could the big eyes be an adaptation for low light? That would be a first in an ant!
