I had thought of including Solaris, but rejected it because it's a great example of amazing, but obscure. And it's not even cautionary, per se. But I've never read a translation of Stanslaw Lem, assuming he wrote in Polish. I didn't even recognize his name. I have only seen the film adaptations: the good one, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, and the junky one that was junky and deserves no further discussion. I guess I need to avail myself of Lem, at least Solaris.
