So I was gonna say this was a “admire, but not enjoy film”, but by the end I did really enjoy it.
Hedorah is a really evil villain. Always evolving and gaining new powers. For a while it seems like it’s just a creature, consuming and growing as its nature dictates. But later it does appear to be malevolent, taking joy in the destruction it brings.
The ending, again non-traditional by Godzilla standards, does feature a fair amount of pyrotechnics.
And this is the film where Godzilla engages in an aerial chase, using his atomic breath as a rocket engine to send him flying backwards through the sky.
