got a big purchasing decision to make today.
do i...
1. spend 750 euros on a second-hand Mac Mini M1 to replace the old mid-2015 MacBook Pro with the puffed up battery?
2. buy a replacement battery and the tools to replace it, and continue to own a quite slow yet functional Mac?
3. abandon Mac entirely and look into replacing it with Linux, Windows or a combination of both?
i don't actually need a laptop.
the MBP has been permanently docked ever since my desktop PC became impossible to upgrade to newer versions of macOS after becoming incompatible with newer Hackintosh patching tools.
it's been doing workstation duty, powering a 4K monitor, and is woefully underpowered for that. the thermal stress is probably what killed the battery.
why NOT spend the money?
1. personal finances. i'm no longer working a day job so i can't really afford it, but some circumstances permitted it this month.
2. i'm not happy with the direction Apple has been taking for the past 10 years.
3. i no longer spend as much time on my creative hobbies as i used to, so there's less need to use creative software.
i'm thinking that if i can revive the MBP with a new battery, i could use it to get some files exported/converted. it's bit of a sudden transition to lose access to all your programs overnight.
