They are Podcasts, Music, audiobooks, Livestreams, etc and any of these can include VIDEO now! I wonder, a good way to explain to people might be: modern media player. A modern podcast app just sounds like only podcasts. Modern Media Player app. "MMP" this is what they really are now. Especially once video gets more normalized.
