The book was read by the author which I always prefer.
The book fundamentally asks whether nature is fundamentally adversarial or actually collaborative. Fungi and lichen being symbiotic.
An interesting questions presents: To what benefit does a fungi produce psilocybin? For humans to act in a more collaborative way with nature? Or just by fluke to produce a chemical that produces such a profound impact on its consumption.
Finishes with a nice story that involves the apple tree at Cambridge Botanical Gardens, that is a cutting of a tree from Isaac Newtons family estate. That makes it a clone. He made cider from the tree, and rather than using yeast from a packet, brewed it with the natural yeast that exists on the apples. This doesn’t always go well as it can go rotten if the wrong bacteria takes hold.
