(1) I bet that junk "study" claiming that 9.5% of software developers do nothing has had more views in the past 30 days than every careful, peer-reviewed piece of empirical software engineering research has had all year. (2) I think an enterprising grad student could produce a widely-read paper by proving this. (3) I think the ESE research community should ask themselves why and change what they do and how they do it in order to have that kind of impact. (4) I don't expect they will.
