This is an interesting article, I think ActivityPub inbox/outbox paired with AT Proto's PDS's is a potentially interesting idea.

I'm not sure I agree with the risks here, e.g., you could totally write an AP server that doesn't store remote content at all, and fetches it all on-demand, it'd be pretty inefficient for displaying a timeline though.
