She paid no attention to what the "news" and politicians said about the state of the economy. What mattered to her was what her own household was undergoing, the challenges they faced.

Numbers and percentages and graphs from the "experts" were meaningless in the face of her reality. And so she did what she usually did: she questioned the narrative, and generally doubted it.
