I lived in the middle of downtown Seattle in the 1990s, in a converted warehouse.
Back when it was weird, and great, and really pretty safe.
There was a large, muscular guy we just called "broad sword guy", because he would walk down the street wearing a broadsword strapped to his back like Conan. He walked with Henry Rollins intensity, with a fast lumbering plod like he was late for a bus.
No one, and i mean no one, bothered broadsword guy.
He was like an icon of the city...along with the Spoonman, and his linen pants, mohawk, and shirtless spoon playing performances which included diatribes about the crimes of the American Military Industrial Complex.
I was just thinking tonight that none of these people would be allowed to walk down the street anymore.
They would be arrested by 27 cops with 3 dogs and a SWAT vehicle now.
I dont go to Seattle anymore either. Because it is legitimately not safe now.
