To anyone watching the Geopolitical scene after Trump came into office, it's fairly clear now that Trump is doing hard bargaining in the public eye, and it's working. Everyone he's put the thumbscrews on have pissed themselves and caved, so far. Columbia, Mexico, Canada, and now Ukraine.

The next hurdles coming up are how Europe will react to the (possible) notion of the US leaving NATO. Trump said that he wanted the NATO partners to devote 5% of GDP to defense, which would indeed be a very potent deterrent to Russian (and other) agression (current EU top spender is Poland with 4,5%, and most of the others not even the formally required 2%). Britain has just promised upping to 2,5%...

Domestically, we'll have to see what economic effects the taxation by tarriffs have, which may take years to assess properly.
