Many keys means you can manage your identity for many different relationships. Then you can choose to expose information for each individual pair separately (think like work key pair, personal key pair, anon key pair). If the 8 different key pairs are from a master key then you could restore all of them with just the one key. The tricky part would be making sure the client properly manages all the identities in a safe way so you don't make mistakes exposing info to one key pair by accident.
