My friends and I used to get up in the dark and drive down to the Bosque to view and photograph the cranes and geese as they flew en mass from the pond where they spent the night. A wonderful sight, but mighty cold.
We are headed down there this morning, but at a more civilized time as we have the last few years. Visiting this wonderful location on the first day of the year has become a tradition. A morning of birding then a picnic lunch at one of the observation decks overlooking a small lake. Weather looks like it will be a gorgeous day.
