The biggest feature of Active Directory is it essentially bringing SSO to local user accounts; you have one acccount and you can sign in to ANY computer on the network provided it's joined to the same domain as an AD Directory Controller
this also means you can apply whatever settings you want onto however many computers you want with a couple clicks in the group policy editor
Want to automatically install a root certificate to the certificate store of all of your computers so that your browser doesn't constantly complain about self-signed certificates when you access your OPNsense instance? There you go
Want to generate your own certificates to apply to your Proxmox or ESXi server? Active Directory can act as the root certificate authority in question. Wam bam labadam
Install a DNS and DHCP server and suddenly you gain the ability to visit your ESXi server at esxi.tyler.local instead of 192.168.1.131
The best part is that it isn't even that painful to install and implement, provided your router isn't locked down like crazy (looking at you Comcast)
