Active gatekeeping: In-group harass and bully the newcomers who are not like them.
Passive gatekeeping: In-group has edgy memes or unsavory fetishes that deter newcomers.
And then there's what I've recently found out about...
Out-group gatekeeping: Does not neccesarily rely on the actions of the in-group. Newcomers either have preconceived notions that are either entirely false, or they are schizophrenic over a particular hobby that they cannot enjoy it out of fear of something that does not actually exist. In other words, trash keeping themselves out.
