I have philosophical objection to charity as a concept.
The idea that there is a need which needs to be met, but it will depend upon the 'arbitrary accidental kindness' of strangers for it to be met does not sit well with me.
The example I always give is the Royal British Legion which if it were simply a ex-services social organisation would be fine. But has a massive charity element that shouldn't be necessary.
All Gov'ts rely on charity to do stuff the state should do.
