Inflation made the financial lives 'worse' for 65% of US households in 2023, with 19% saying it was 'much worse', according to the Federal Reserve's Economic Well-Being of US Households report. The report also found that 72% of adults surveyed said they were 'doing okay' financially, down from 78% in 2021. Incomes grew in 2023, but so did spending, leaving more than half of adults without money left over after paying expenses. Lower-income adults reported higher instances of not having enough to eat, not being able to cover bills in full, and skipping medical care. Overall, 17% of adults reported they could not pay all their bills in full in the month prior to the survey. The report also showed improvement in people's feelings about their local economy, with 42% saying it was 'good' or 'excellent', up from 38% the year before. However, perceptions of the national economy remained low, with only 22% of people feeling positive about it.
