Australian Food, by the beautiful #BillGranger. Gone too soon 😢
When I lived in Sydney, Bill's (the name of his first restaurant) was one of the places I hung out. It was close (a short drive), with fab coffee, wonderful food, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Bill took over that place when he knew nothing about running restaurants, figuring that he and his staff could figure it out as they went along. But the location, behind St VIncent's Hospital and the Victor Chang research centre, meant that they were busy from day 1. 😂 It became an iconic place in Sydney.
My brother moved to Darlinghurst, just around the corner from Bill's, so even when visiting from Adelaide, Bill's was always on the agenda. He closed Bill's at one stage, forgotten why, but then it reopened.
I once did a cooking class with Bill. It was eye-opening and fabulous.
Anyway, the book. A great collection of what I call "East Coast Australian" food. The great recipes from his other books (including the scrambled eggs and the fritters, and of course, smashed avo), and lots of other stuff. All in his style - light, full of sunshine, and relaxed.
It's a joy to browse this book.
