Rating, I'm giving this book a 6.

It's a 10 on substance, but a 3 on delivery.

The last 4 chapters are so beautiful that I want to forgive every annoyance in the entire book, but I can't. It's frustrating.

People who speed-read the whole book in a weekend may never notice the bugs, but if you read a couple hours a day, questions like "why not weld the door shut" follow you around.

I know the author is very smart, he regularly writes better twitter posts than I could ever muster. Perhaps fiction writing is just one of those things, it's so much harder than it looks that it makes fools out of the best of us.

When the next book comes out, I'm not sure if I'll read it or not. My attitude toward this story very closely matches Marcus's relationship to Miranda. Annoyed as hell, but warming up a little at a time.

If there's a moral to this story, I think it is that what defines humanity is the willingness to recognize others as human, and I think that's worth something.
