Pawlicker 🔧 (nprofile…nvyk) to be fair all that legacy DirectX code is a huge nest of bespoke weirdness. Meanwhile all the modern stuff (DX12, Vulkan, Metal) are so similar that you just need to implement it once. I think it's the state-machine implicit-sync architecture versus the explicit sync behavior of the modern. Lower level means the responsibility goes to the gamedev, instead of the driver of perfectly implementing whatever behavior from 2004.
