This, what I'm going to say next, is going to be an unpopular opinion with many people, many leftists, most people who love purity tests, etc. Basically people who don't need or use accommodations will disagree with me.
Many people will also disagree with me because Jeff Bezos is a billionaire evil doer. I agree about that. His labor practices are horrid. Etc. etc. etc. I agree on those points, too.
I was talking about the evil Amazon with one of my fellow #autistic friends last week, and they said hey, do not beat yourself up for having to use it now and again.
It is an accommodation.
That fucking blew my mind.
I have been using home delivery for certain things for a number of years now because of the pandemic, but also because it really does help me conserve spoons.
It is an accommodation.
I still drive a car. That's an accommodation, because I can't walk that far. I ride my bike when I can, which is a great accommodation that is much lighter on the planet, but it is not possible for a lot of the work that I do because I have to haul so much physical stuff. I use a cane every now and then, which is an accommodation (one that people always want to ask about, because I don't always use it 🙄). I get groceries delivered sometimes because it's a risk for me to go into a store where hundreds of people have been breathing un-masked all day.
That evil site has allowed me and other friends to send warm clothing to my friend who's living in their car. It would've been exponentially more difficult to get things to them without the convenience of that site. Using that site may help save them this winter.
So everything is a trade-off, and yeah. I tend to think too black-and-white about most things.
I will keep working to not use that site, whenever possible, but I don't have to be as hard on myself as I have been, mentally, about it, now that my friend reminded me that *using available accommodations is OK*.
