Went to a terrible event today of people claiming to be organizing the community for change when all they were really organizing was charity. There was even a city council member present and talk about organizing a protest in cooperation with the police. We couldn't bail fast enough. What was scary were the dozens of people who were really into it, believe they were doing good work.

When the state fails to meet our needs - and the state by design always fails to meet our needs - there are two options:

Charity in unquestioning maintenance of the status quo. The band-aid of normalizing and deescalating state abandonment.

Or the realization that the state is neglect and drawing upon mutual aid as an antagonistic material demonstration that we don't need the state to meet our needs or to take care of one another.

The state and charity are impediments to liberation.
