The danger of those wannabe dictators is that they have the extraordinary power to *unite* those people you say you fear.
Every town has a bunch of nutters who say stupid things down at the pub. That's usually fine, people ignore them, and they go nowhere. The danger is when someone becomes a leader and gathers all of those idiots. By mobilising them under an organisation, they become powerful. So the wannabe dictators are indeed extremely dangerous.
