I have wanted to emigrate from the US since 1982. I never felt I could. I didn't have a chunk of money. I had a degree in art. And eventually I was disabled and for many countries that's an automatic "we don't want you".
Sometimes I wish folks would remember that immigration barriers are not just maintained by the US. Lots of countries have them and some of those barriers are pretty high as well.
