There are billions of dollars of committed public cloud spend out there and companies swarming on it like piranhas trying to bite off the most/biggest chunks. It's easy money because it's a no-brainer sales pitch. The spend commitments need to be met. Those same companies will tell you "cloud services are the future", "pay as you go is the new paradigm".
Ever just pause and think about that? See the irony? Overcommitted cloud spend is one of the biggest sources of fuel keeping the tech industry somewhat afloat today. Doesn't sound to me like anyone is paying as they go. Sounds like the big public cloud corps created a fantastic marketing scheme that resulted in the same old contracts. And now they own our data centers.
