When I was 17, a friend's grandfather needed to dig a well and was a firm believer in "Water Witches," so he hired one. I was on his property when the witch arrived. The grandfather approached him and said "I've heard that to be a proper witch you have to have 6 digits on at least one hand or foot."
The witch promptly took off his left shoe and sock to reveal 6 toes, then he went to work dowsing. They hit water on the first dig.
