Transaction Tracker Rant
+++
I decided to import crypto transactions into a tracking software.
This post is proof I did not throw out my computer.
It is not proof that it was as easy as it described or that there isn't a bunch of absolutely nightmarishly confusing gotchyas on the backside of things if you use more than one type of wallet, or if there is more than one type of .csv to import even though the pre-validation steps said it's fine...go ahead and upload that bad boy.
Or wait, there's more -- even though you can use the free account forever, now that we've got this almost sorted for you (because you did correctly follow the directions we gave you so far!) --- you'll have to upgrade to get the rest of it!
I'm walking away until I'm ready to tackle this again.
Hours gone in good faith in trying to figure it out. It's one of the biggest reasons I never wanted to touch Bitcoin or anything that resembles it, ever again.
Bitcoin is the only sound money in existence right now. It's the only one that will remain globally. I have to get through this.
I'm not going to be happy if I have to spend $200 on a personalized-service phone call to straighten it all out, when literally, better communication upfront to a user would spare much of this grief! I don't even know enough to know what I did wrong or where.
Even though the .csv files had everything, and more the software needs, I guess it still didn't have the right thing at the right time, but guess what, the initial screen to input things, doesn't even have it listed as a field. I chose the wrong transaction type, then I guess the thing it uses to calculate it populates? I was combing through my bank statements to try and figure it out.
My blood pressure. I honestly don't know how people deal with this.
I can't do this tonight. πΆββοΈ
No, it's not resolved. But I'm gonna now have to drop everything else tomorrow to try and fix it before I forget even more than I already forgot. No, I cannot reimport the wallet transactions elsewhere. I already moved everything and got rid of them. I'm hunting and pecking now through things --
-- None of this would be necessary if we in the United States, weren't required to provide such detailed reporting of all this stuff.
I can take peace in knowing this:
1. I followed the directions I was provided.
2. I have all the transactions imported or entered by hand (except for all of Alby's micropayments because it wouldn't even read that .csv, even though it said it could).
3. Each one has what was asked for it, except for the ones I have an idea of what needs to be fixed (or at least try).
4. I know all the major things are accounted for and they are at least in one spot.
5. Once it's sorted --- all I have to focus on is one place for transactions. That's it.
The rest of it?
It's enough to suffocate a person.
What a mess.
I'm gonna tell all my friends/family who might ask me about this: stick with ONE way to get Bitcoin, in ONE place that works with a popular tracking software (the tracking software is the piece I hadn't yet researched and didn't think about ahead of time.) Preferably a cold wallet where you buy and it goes directly into in an address generated from that cold wallet and that has been verified on the device. (Like BitBox02, ColdCard, and BitKey.) The end. That's it. No fuss.
I'm serious.
There has to a better way. I need to reduce my stress.
