I never really remember any *theory* about what limits could be evaluated, just the quiet understanding that no one would ever ask anyone to work with limits unless it could be done with a bit of algebra.
But what would a theory of limits even be like? I'm not talking about if the limit exists or not, I'm talking about if you can resolve it into a neat little function.
