Had a friend who was lactose intolerant, he'd eat ice cream once in a while just so he wouldn't get hit with a really bad reaction when you least expect it. So there's definitely some merit to getting back into it. Suspect it's the same with meat. Vegans claim you can never go back, X to doubt.
