This is not always a positive thing, IMO.
I remember day #1 in my A-level Chemistry class, and the tutor said "You know all that stuff you learned in Chemistry for the last 2 years for your O-levels? Forget all that, because things don't really work like that!"
Disheartened, I was. Ditched Chem shortly after that to focus on Maths and Physics. I've often thought that perhaps a more nuanced introduction might have kept me at it...
