Tonight, I synced my Bitcoin node on my laptop, which took the entire evening. After downloading the last blocks, the node is now fully synchronized with the Bitcoin network, currently at block 880,874.
Why is this important? Because with the node running on my laptop, I can connect directly to the Bitcoin network without relying on any external service providers. Running your own node isn’t mandatory, but it’s incredibly useful. It contributes to the stability of the network, and most importantly, you control the rules that the Bitcoin network operates by. This is one of Bitcoin’s core strengths: it’s not controlled by big corporations or miners but by us, individuals, through our nodes.
During the process, I connected my wallet to the node on my laptop and sent a transaction that will soon be confirmed. This means I don’t need to rely on a service provider’s node to verify my transactions. By running your own node, you only need to trust the code you downloaded and run yourself.
If you’re curious to dive deeper into Bitcoin, I highly recommend trying to set up your own node. Have a great weekend, everyone!
