While it reflects the best of our knowledge at the time, ultimately, the conclusion is overly optimistic. Civilisation of a sort continues. Life of a sort carries on.
It was only after the film was made that scientists gained an understanding of nuclear winter. One could argue that Britain, as an island, was well-poised to escape the worst of it, and perhaps that's true.
Now we know that the nuclear winter and darkness would last for a hundred years. When the dust finally cleared, it would clear to completely out of control climate change. Nuclear war is the worst scenario for the continuance of human life on earth.
However, policy maker's complete indifference to climate change is also making our outlook rather bleak. Only by concentrated, serious struggle do we have any hope. We must rebuild and reshape our societies through revolutionary action so that our societies may continue.
