I am lucky to have some osint obsessives in my discord, and this is a summary of what went wrong tonight in Washington DC:
— the passenger plane was on the correct flight path for landing at the usual runway
— it is Known that the runway landing approaches and the nearby helicopter landing pads overlap in a very inconvenient way and everyone is supposed to be very trained and coordinated about it; unvetted randos are not allowed to fly around or land in DC to begin with
— the military helicopter has been identified as on a training flight, but it couldn’t possibly be some kid’s first time at the controls, in the middle of Washington DC (see above)
— air traffic control contacted the military helicopter with a warning that would translate to non-jargon as “bro do you realize you’re on a collision course with a civilian plane?”
so a very strange and avoidable fatal fuckup, but perhaps the overlap in landing and takeoff areas for the planes and helicopters is simply too unsafe
