At around 20:30 on Sunday, the 110 police hotline received a report that someone was releasing smoke at the entrance of a bank branch on Zhouzhugong Road near Luxi Road in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area. The police soon arrived at the scene and detained the individual. No injuries were reported, according to a release by the Pudong branch, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security, via its Weibo account, on Monday.
Upon investigation, it was found that the person, surnamed Zhang (male, 17 years old), had ignited smoke canisters purchased online for playing CS games at the entrance. According to his family members, Zhang had a history of multiple psychiatric consultations and had not been taking his medication as prescribed recently, said the release.
Currently, Zhang has been sent to a medical facility for a psychiatric evaluation, and further investigations are underway, said the release.
