Unfortunately these concepts are a little too heady for the average consumer. Made remarkably worse when their peer group is using a specific application or technology to communicate or even earn a living. You have no other choice, but to accept those terms sometimes. Not doing so would exclude you and make doing business more difficult.
So even if people comprehended what they were agreeing to, it's not like they have many other alternatives available when that's the platform or tech they have to use.
