I think nuclear power is not very competitive and must be highly supported with fiat money by the state, so it could compete with cheaper electricity sources. Maybe france would be a good example to check this thought nuclear.
And when you see globally solar power is very cheap in a lot of countries around the globe.

Also the investments are very high for single nuclear projects.
I think safety requirements are higher then for other sources, what means higher costs.
In my opinion it is simpler to set up power supply step by step with smaller projects and more decentralized then centralized recources. In germany not optimal with sun and wind but I think going the way by trading with sourounding countries and providing a mix of sun, wind and gas is a good enough approach for the longterm future.

The only advantage I see with nuclear is the environmental footprint. Because nuclear seems to use a lot less area due to the high electric power generation density. But it is also hardly compare in general to other sources.

Maybe their move, mentioned in the article about fusion power, is smart, if they really enable and can deploy fusion into a electricity producing plant in the future.
It is another question if it will be cheaper overall and can compete to nuclear, wind, sun, coal, oil , water, underground heat, biomass/trash, ...

Other wise fiat will regulate that as well ;)
