A paraphrase of Acts 20:18-35
18-21 Remember how I lived among you, use it as an example. I gave myself completely - emotionally invested in you. Met with you in public places and in homes. Testified to everyone the truth of the gospel of Jesus regardless of cultural affiliation.
22-25 Now I'm leaving and won't be coming back. You will have to carry on without me.
26-28 This is a big responsibility I am handing over to you, your own spiritual health and of the souls God has put in your care. Jesus considered them worth dying for, the least you can do is give your best to them.
29-31 Men seeking fame and fortune will rise up among those in your care, to create a following for themselves instead of pointing to Jesus, severing spiritual connections among them in the process. Defend against this by fostering deep spiritual relationships, never letting up on this for a moment.
32 Build strong communities by studying God's word together.
33-35 Just as I showed you by example, work hard so that you can provide for yourself, help those in need, and not be financially dependant on those you serve. Do not desire worldly riches so that you can live off very little. Being generous with others is a critical part of your service to God.
