Gotta say, the majority of the negative response I've seen to this so far has come from people that kinda give off big reply guy vibes. Maybe just a coincidence?
Ironically this probably won't even immediately impact most of the people complaining about it because they almost certainly don't use the official Mastodon app.
Outside of the fediverse this place is basically known as THE home of reply guys and tone policing. Small nudges can impact culture.
